| Este é o primeiro tratamento taxonômico de uma família de angiospermas para a fiorala da Reserva Ducke. A família está representada na Reserva por 35 espécies, distribuídas em 14 gêneros. Os gêneros com seus respectivos números de espécies são: Bactris(8), Geonoma(6), Astrocaryum(5), Attalea(3), Oenocarpus(3), Euterpe(2), Desmoncus(1), Hyospathe(1), inanella(1), Manicarla(1), Mauritia(1), Mauritiella(1), Socratea(1) e Syagrus(1). O tratamento inclui chaves para identificação dos gêneros e das espécies encontrados na Reserva, além de descrições sucintas das espécies. As chaves utilizam, principalmente caracteres encontrados em material herborizado, em estado fértil. |

| Game theory offers an alternative approach to standard means of resource assessment which can be of value in the definition and assessment of policy options for competing parties. Using a Nash co-operative game it has been possible in this paper to show the significance of fishing strategies for southern bluefin tuna which take into account the age distribution of the catch. Assuming Japan and Australia act according to a cooperative game then the optimal fishing strategy was found to involve Australia avoiding the fishing of the very young cohorts and Japan taking a moderate catch in subsequent older age classes but not the oldest of the age classes. | Cover crops can help reduce the negative environmental impacts of cotton production. Using time series yield data, this study utilizes generalized stochastic dominance to evaluate the relative worth, via risk premiums, of three cover crop and two conventional production systems based on expected net returns of each system and decision maker risk attitude. Results indicate, within the limitation of the study, two cover crop regimes possess a high degree of dominance over conventional systems. Determination of the dominant regime depends upon the risk attitude of a specific decision maker. This research suggests cover crop production systems may be feasible alternatives to conventional practices. |

| Laboratory modelling experiments have been conducted to simulate the behaviour and stability characteristics of a buoyant boundary current formed by the discharge of river water into a tidal crossflow. Results from parametric studies of conditions typical of the Channel are presented to show: a) the different forms taken by the boundary currents for stable and unstable currents respectively; b) the dependence of the nose velocity and current width of the boundary current upon the driving density difference and the amplitude of the tidal forcing; and c) variation with Burger number Bu of the growth rate and wavelength of the meander-like instabilities. | In this paper 11 species of rodents are described, that have been found in the fossiliferous karst fissure of Alozaina (Malaga, Spain). Three species of Stephanomys (Murinae) are present in this fauna: S. thaleri, S. minor, and the new species S. prietaensis. The latter exhibits a lesser degree of evolution than Stephanomys balcellsi from Valdeganga 7 and Islas Medas. The association of rodents from Alozaina is a new one for the Upper Pliocene in Spain. It indicates that the locality of Alozaina is younger than Moreda 1B and Rambla Seca Ab, and older than Valdeganga 7. |
